Love & Peas This Valentine —
Let’s Make The Planet Our Plus 1 This Valentines Day !

We’re all encouraged to buy the flowers, the chocolates, book a romantic meal out for Valentines and no-one wants to be preached to but when you think a single Kenyan rose has a carbon footprint of 2.407 Kg CO2, equaling up to 6 miles in a car (Source) and the steak dinner has a carbon footprint of 6.268 Kg CO2, equaling up to 20 miles in a car (Source). So that’s 26 miles for just one rose and dinner! Most of us now do think and share concerns about the future of our environment and how we can be part of improving this, so maybe this Valentine’s Day we could think about changing our habits and channel the love to the planet too?

UK’s First Carbon Negative Restaurant Challenges All to a Vegan Valentine’s

Some restaurants are also keen to spread the message and educate us all as much as they can. The UK’s first carbon negative restaurant & bar Stem & Glory invites the public to challenge outdated approaches to the most romantic day of the year… COP26’s Hero of Net Zero, Stem & Glory are encouraging us to consider what we are eating and where and the impact just that one night could have. They have created a plant-based-carbon-free menu that presents an exciting and innovative menu of alternative aphrodisiacs — from King oyster mushrooms to artichoke fillets and passion fruit crème brulee to raw red velvet cheesecake .

Fruit and Veg Diet Proven to Boost Romance

No romance is spared when it comes to a vegan Valentine’s though, in fact, studies show a non-meat diet sees people appear more attractive, have a more pleasant body odour and a better post-date performance! Trying to change people’s thoughts on their food habits is of course difficult, but Vegan charity Viva’s potential controversial tv advert leaves no doubt about their message.

And beyond the scientific benefits, indulging in a plant-based meal is steeped in romantic historical symbolism! Dating back to many ancient cultures when fruits and vegetables were often given as love tokens. Strawberries especially! With the traditional passionate reds of romance, strawberries are said to have stemmed from Aphrodite’s heart-shaped tears! Loaded with vital vitamin C, crucial for the production of sex hormones and libido increasing chemical neurotransmitters — who knew !?
